BIKELASH: Pedaling on a collision course
As Cleveland grows into a cycling city, it is not without growing pains. Imagine a morning commute with profanities screamed at you, objects thrown your way and drivers intent on running you off the road.
“In cities, they see this. It’s called ‘bikelash,’ says executive Director of Bike Cleveland, Jacob VanSickle, “Where motorists start to push back. They see more cyclists on the road. They’re not generally accustomed to it.”
Many drivers simply aren’t used to bicyclists on the roadways. Negligent drivers may back out of driveways or make sudden turns without paying attention to cyclists.
